Meta's new AI agent for small businesses plugs into QuickBooks, Shopify and Slack

AI IntegrationAI Implementation

On September 29, Meta announced Muse for Small Business, an expansion of its Muse personal AI agent. According to Meta's announcement, owners can "give Muse a goal — like running your business or finding new customers — and it gets it done."

The agent can connect to Instagram professional accounts, Facebook Pages and Meta ad accounts. Meta also lists connectors for Asana, Box, Canva, Dropbox, Figma, Granola, HighLevel, Intuit QuickBooks, Klaviyo, Lovable, Notion, Shopify, Slack, Stripe and Zoom, plus custom connectors. Meta says "nothing publishes, sends, or spends without your approval," and that Muse is free for most uses, with paid plans for heavier use.

Engadget notes the trade-off: the agent needs access to data across several business systems, and "there's also a chance the agent could behave unpredictably or misinterpret an instruction."

What it means for an SMB

  • Agents are arriving inside tools you already use. You don't need a custom build to try one. The real work is deciding what it's connected to.
  • Approval-before-action is the right default. Keep it on. Treat the agent's drafts as a junior hire's drafts. Our AI approval matrix shows how to decide what needs sign-off.
  • Connect read-only first. Start with analytics and reporting before giving it access to your books, your storefront or your customer records.
  • Free tools spread quietly. Set a simple policy now so a team member doesn't connect QuickBooks or Stripe on their own.
